Cold Spring's housing stock skews old — a lot of it predates 1900, and much of the village sits within a historic district. That shapes the work in two ways.
First, nothing is square, and it isn't close. In a house that has been settling for well over a century, a shower opening can easily be out of plumb by more than the tolerance a stock enclosure allows. This is precisely the situation frameless glass is least forgiving of, and it's why we template on site rather than working from stated dimensions. Occasionally the honest recommendation is semi-frameless, because the metal gives us somewhere to absorb the discrepancy.
Second, storage is genuinely scarce. Homes from this period often have no real closets at all, or a single shallow one per bedroom. A well-designed custom system in an alcove or under a sloped attic ceiling frequently adds more usable storage than the house originally had anywhere.
Not for interior work. Shower enclosures, mirrors and closets are inside the building envelope. If your project touches anything exterior, check with the village first about local review requirements.
Often yes. We measure at multiple heights and account for the discrepancy in fabrication and hardware selection. If it's beyond what frameless can absorb cleanly, we'll tell you and suggest semi-frameless instead.
