Poughkeepsie has an unusually wide range of housing for one city. The neighbourhoods around the older core hold a lot of late-1800s and early-1900s homes — high ceilings, narrow bathrooms, and closets that were an afterthought when the house was framed. Out toward the eastern and southern edges, the stock shifts to post-war ranches and colonials with more predictable layouts.
That split changes the work. In the older homes, the constraint is almost always the walls: plaster over lath that has moved over a century, bathrooms where no two corners are square. Frameless glass shows every bit of that, so we measure the opening at several heights and specify hardware with enough adjustment to absorb it. In the newer stock, the openings are usually straightforward and the conversation is about finish and configuration instead.
